After back-to-back losses last weekend, Steel City FC looked to earn a win back on their home turf. After a 90 minute grueling match with Torch FC, SCFC earned a 1-0 victory over the visitors. Steel City is now 2-3-1 on the season while Torch FC falls to 2-3-0.
Torch FC kept tough pressure outshooting Steel City 25-11 (17-7 on goal) in the match; however, Keeper Jess Neill had another spectacular game earning a clean sheet the complete 90 minutes of action, picking up 17 saves.
Steel City would get on the board after a foul on Torch FC in the 19th minute. Krystyna Rytel shot a rocket from 40 yards out for the free kick over the Torch GK to score the only goal of the game.
Torch FC would fight back hard with 3 shots in the next 5 minutes, with no luck hitting the back of the net. Steel City would answer with 2 shots of their own from Rytel and Leila Hannaoui. The final 15 minutes of the half would see 7 shots between both teams, including shots from Maddie Layman and Naomi Matthusen. Neither team was able to change the score, at the half the score was 1-0.
Torch FC came out of the gates firing with shots in the 46th minute and 52nd minute. The teams would continue going back firing back and forth throughout the second half. Torch had 2 close opportunities in the second half. In the 81st minute, Neill foiled a 1v1 opportunity with a Torch FC attacker. 4 minutes later, Torch FC would hit the crossbar.
Steel City FC would hold on for the 1-0 victory.
