Cheswick, PA – The Women’s First Team secured a second straight win, with a 4-1 victory over Erie Sports Center late Tuesday evening at Founders Field. This win pushed the women to (5-4-0) on the season, with one game left to play.

Assistant coach Scott Arnold stepped up and led the team to a commanding victory in the absence of Coach Tommo.

Starting Fast

The Women’s First Team got off to a quick start yet again off a set piece from Coco Dorfman (Marquette ’28). In the 7th minute of action, Steel City won a corner, which Dorfman swung in from the left side. Kayla Leseck (Duquesne ’27) rushed onto the ball at the near post and flicked it over the goalkeeper, who was scrambling to claim the ball.

The remainder of the first half was back and forth with both sides creating a few chances, but the half ended with Erie Sports Center scoring on the last touch of the half. A direct ball and a great touch around the defender pulled the Steel City keeper up into an awkward position, and the Erie Sports Center Striker finished into the bottom corner.

Second Half Surge

Abigail Stager (Maryland ’28) returned to the lineup today and continued her scoring. She scored early in the second half off a great layoff inside the eighteen from Samantha Miller (Kent State ’27). Stager’s shot ended up in the bottom corner, putting Steel City FC up 2-1 in the 53rd minute. She found the back of the net again in the 76th minute after the team won the ball high up the field on a great press. Stager found the ball in behind her mark inside the eighteen and coolly slotted her shot past the goalie.

Miller put the final stamp on the game after scoring the 4th and final Steel City goal on a great cross from Bri Ross (PSB ’29). Ross’s cross was just inside the back post of the six-yard box, and Miller found herself in the perfect position to head home the final goal of the game.

Steel City FC is back Saturday, June 27th, to take on The Pittsburgh Riveters for their final game of the season. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
